I'd like to run another game.
I could pick up the Back to Basics game, however I'm looking for something that will hold my interest near as much as the Dragon Wars campaign does. However the DW campaign is the only one I've ever run in full Tabletop wise, and thus the only one I have written out all of the literature for.
Basically I could cause the Dragon Wars campaign demise 1,000 times and still attempt to pick it back up again.
I've been toying with multiple gaming ideas all stemming from pop-culture, fantasy novels, and movies or the like that have general tones that have piqued my interest.
The first pitch I threw was for the Darkness Falls campaign.
Darkness Falls
Its a dark setting, with every action having consequences either noticeable or otherwise. The campaign is supposed to feel sad and a tad overwhelming, with an intense graphic nature of horrific scenes as the world is literally turned into an abomination.
Our heroes for this campaign are not meant to save the world, merely to survive it with the goal of having their families live through it with them.
Adventures would range from simply exploring this hostile world in search of resources, to interacting with what few humanoids exit, and defending the cloister from mobs of Abominations, Horrors, and the infectious Shambling Zombies.
I have a stronger written plot line and characters for a School Based Campaign and Setting.
This one I wrote up largely while reading the Harry Potter novels, and while the setting is at a School of sorts, the adventures and world are otherwise different. Similarities come in the form of the setting, as a live-in school is pretty much similar to most live in schools. However classes, "houses", majors, and extracurricular activities would all be different.
The Academy
The four party members are all roommates for their freshman year at this prestigious school designed to turn squabble into experts. A boarding school of sorts, it is not cheap to come by though the government has multiple boards and grants that are used to house individuals from less fortunate families that show talent.
Your class becomes your Major, if one where to be a Fighter, they would be studying to be a Fighter, the same with the other standard classes. There was even the inclusion of a Masters level program where student "Majored" in Prestige Classes. Instead of Majors these would be Focuses.
While the 4 players would be roommates a majority of their time might be spent a part if they picked up different Foci, and extracurricular activities and the forum setting permits such individual play. They would be bound by the eating of meals, the general freshmen classes, the mandated meetings, and their living arrangements.
As the game progressed they would gain access to the wide arrange of opportunities at The Academy. The could join a chapter (Fraternity/Sorority/House), pick up a sport, a club, school politics. Who will their Guardian be, how will they prepare for their Tests, and events such as this.
The Central campaign thus runs the course of guiding your character through a school year. The Adventures aren't your standard live or die adventures, more likely they are lessons, or run ins with the less savory attendants of The Academy. As such this campaign would emphasize role playing and problem solving, with very little actual hack and slash.
When I first started to write the Dragon Wars campaign the idea of it all was to have the players be at the front lines of the wars. This did not happen in actuallity as the players continually chose to move away from the war efforts (Tabletop and forum), and as such the Dragon Wars campaign plays out similar to others. I have no qualms with that, as it is a great campaign.
However, I have always wanted to have a front lines war campaign, and thus the idea continually pops into mind. The reason this isn't a front runner is because this campaign would parallel my Dragon Wars campaign, and at some point the two stories would cross and in all likely hood DW would become a front lines affair for a certain point.
The Front Lines
A war unlike that seen for a millennium has been brewing on the western continent of Avelo... A new king of the Orcs has managed to unite the horde and under their foot the monstrous races have a single mind... to crush the glorious golden wall.
As a solider of the combined forces, or a mercenary on hire, you will play the role of a front lines combatant. Your regiment assigned to be one of the first to deal with the infestation of Orcs that have come to topple the wall.
You will have ranks and files, and will receive orders on where to move and who to attack, but once the lines have clashed all that really matters is surviving.
While this campaign favors the obvious melee fighters, the column that the players will be fighting under has been designed to be flexible to fight the numerous montrous foes that will flood from beyond the wasteland. As such they will contain soldiers skilled with magic, bow, and the like. This does not change that the focus of the campaign will be front lines warfare... so if the player would choose to play a rogue, make it adept at fighting because that's what they'll be doing (not disarming traps or sweet talking diplomats)
The bulk of roleplaying would be during camp, while the fighting was over and the wait for the next day of glorious battle was upon them...
There are also two less written campaigns I've been tossing around for quite some time.
I've always wanted a gladiator setting, though never found a proper story to be told. It always turned into a PvP affair tournament style.
And then a Naval setting, Armed escorts or simply ship hands or what not. The campaign takes place on the ship and the adventures that take place would include dealing with issues on the ship, dealing with both neutral and hostile ships, exploring uncharted islands, and simply surviving the high seas. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxowWo_XV_c |
