Ah yes the good ol' days. What are some overpowered/versatile spells that you used in this edition? Could be divine or arcane. Could be from PHB or any of the other kit/option books.
The reason I made this post because in a high-level 2nd edition game on another site I just took out an entire army of undead (hundreds of zombies/skeletons/wights/etc.) and a lich (well got it down to half hp) with a single Wall of Fire.
Another one would be the Transmute Rock to Mud spell (arcane version). I killed an entire contingent of high-level full-plate knights in 1 round with that spell. Full plate armor is the absolute worst when you're trying to swim in mud. _________________ "I find your lack of faith disturbing." --Darth Cleric

| I have a friend who in his first adventure, had to but out a fire. A village on fire. By themselves. With no buckets. The team's wizard threw a fireball above the village and burned out all the oxygen in a area, putting out the fire. Also, I've never used it, but that creeping death spell sounds gnarly (and looks gnarly if you have an edition with a icture of it). |

| That might work in 1e, actually. I will have to crack open the books and look at it. |

Yeah creeping doom is insane. It's also a 7th level priest spell. Most 7th level priest spells are insane. But yeah I remember creeping doom was especially. Something like 1000 damage/round for 1 round/level? _________________ "I find your lack of faith disturbing." --Darth Cleric

Levitate was nice 2nd level spell that was save-or-die to nonfliers. Too bad 3.5e made into a self or willing creature only. _________________ "I find your lack of faith disturbing." --Darth Cleric

I heard the first edition description of goodberry (great in 2e) says "you conjure forth a tasty berry". Can anyone confirm this? _________________ "...This moment, this night! This is what you will be remembered for..." |

I am fairly certain the spell did not exist in 1E. _________________ Kensai & Professional Hero
